If you read some criticisms of our economic system, they propose that growth will continue unabated without any limits, but after a couple hundred years, that exponential gets to the point that all the waste heat cannot be dissipated from the earth any longer and it all breaks down.

If you’re postulating unbounded growth, seems pretty arbitrary to not postulate engineering solutions to this problem (eg shift the energy intensive industry off-Earth).
