This is completely the opposite of my experience. I'm in probably a dozen Freenode channels via bridge and another 5-6 Mozilla IRC channels, and haven't had a problem in as long as I can remember.

Same. It was a little 'interesting' to get setup (because IRC) but all-in-all it works great!
